Gokyo (4,700 M)
The trek to Gokyo was a numbing 8 hours. After the steep descent from the Cho La Pass we walked across the Ngozumpa Glacier. The glacier was interesting because it was literally like walking across a desert. The nature of the glaciers on the Khumbu is to go underground and throw up tons of rocky rubble as they move forward. So there is not a lot of ice to see - mainly rocks and sand.
We eventually reached the lodge at Gokyo - practically falling into it from exhaustion. Gokyo is a very pretty village and all the lodges appear to be comfortable, However there still only cold showers (the bucket type) - which was a major improvement on no showers at all. However, no one seemed willing to have a cold shower where people could look into the shower cubicle from their rooms.
