Dingboche (4,360 M)
Lukla is situated at 2,827 metres. We landed in the early morning at an airstrip established by Sir Edmund Hillary in the 1960s. The airstrip is remarkable since it is perched on a mountain side and is oriented uphill and has a sheer drop of several hundred metres.
Lukla has a relatively large military presence (in the event of an attack by the Maoist Rebels) and is subject to curfew at 6:00pm until 7:00am.
We walked from here down to Phakding (2,652 metres).
